MDT Assessment

The Mckenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) is an effective and safe way to assess pain and discomfort with your back, neck, shoulders, knees, hips, feet/hands and even headaches. MDT uses a series of mechanical (movement), symptomatic, neurological and functional baselines to monitor the effects of gentle repeated test movements in a targeted direction to determine if this direction of movement improves your condition. A direction with favorable effects becomes you prescriptive movement which you use over time to relieve your symptoms, reduce mechanical tissue irritation (which allows for the body to repair itself), and to combat future episodes of pain.

Functional Exercise

We utilize a discipline called development kinesiology (DK) as a foundation for rehab programs. The goal is lengthen, strengthen and properly activate motor firing pathways. Dk uses primal positions that every baby i the world inherently employs to develop the muscle strength and skeletal capacity to lift their heads, roll over, crawl, walk and become movement operational. We tap back into these ingrained neuro-motor programs to enable joints to be optimally stable, muscles to be maximally forceful, and the body to function at its very best.

Therapeutic Yoga Lesson

One-on-one yoga class with sequences and hands on adjustments tailored to accommodate any injury limitations or fitness level. This 60 minute class is all about how to best facilitate recovery, increase strength and mobility, and cultivate a deeper understanding of your physical body. This is ideal for athletes looking to supplement their activity specific training regime. We go beyond the typical yoga intention of breath and relaxation to include more specific goals. Perhaps you need to increase your hip flexibility for smoother arm bar transitions or open your shoulders and chest to combat that desk job posture.

Chiropractic Adjustments

Chiropractic adjustments consist of low amplitude, high velocity impulse into a joint. This can reduce muscle tension in the area, increase joint range of motion and relieve local pain. We believe that chiropractic adjustments or “back and neck cracking” should be used sparingly and only when indicated to progress repeated test movements. Chiropractic adjustments are very safe, and can be extremely effective when used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

Soft Tissue Work

We use a number of different techniques to facilitate activation, lengthening, tension relief, and remodeling of tight, weak ligaments, tendons and muscles. We use our training background in anatomy and touch learned from A.R.T. (Active Release Technique ) to perform pin and stretch on what you might call chronically “tight” muscle groups. We use RockTape (aka K-Tape, or kinesiotape) to encourage proper muscle firing and speed bruise healing time, as well as adding proprioceptive input to increase joint stability. Instrument assisted work to remodel scar tissue to reduce pain and stiffness around an injured area. We also use therapeutic soft tissue manipulation, also known as good old fashioned massage or hands on tissue work to block pain pathways and facilitate mental relaxation.
